Washington Defeats Oregon in 2008 Chess Match

Reported by Harley Greninger

The surroundings of medieval times at the Hoquiam Castle proved to be a wonderful environment to hold the 2008 Washington vs. Oregon chess match. Each state fielded 5 players and faced off Saturday July 26th. When the smoke cleared, it was Washington atop by a final score of 6 ½-3 ½. The lower two boards proved to be Oregon’s downfall, as Washington outscored Oregon 3 ½ to ½, while the top 3 boards yielded an even score. Premier Realty Grays Harbor sponsored the event, and many players commented how nice the event was. Many local players and spectators were also on hand to witness the hard-fought match.
