2006 Washington State Championship / Premier

Congratulations to Slava Mikhailuk for successfully defending his championship!
Slava is the Washington State Chess Champion for the fourth consecutive year!

The 2006 Washington State Championship / Premier tournaments were conducted as round-robins the weekends of February 11-12 and 18-20, 2006 at the University of Washington, Tacoma Campus, 210 Dougan Hall, approximately S. 17th Street & S. Jefferson Avenue, Tacoma, WA. Rounds began at 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM on the weekends, and at 1:00 PM on President's Day, Monday, February 20.

Through a $3,000 donation of Dr. James Roberts and Mr. Erik Anderson, the prize fund is $4,000 for the Championship. First $1,000, Second $550, Third $200, Plus $50 per full game points earned by each player. The winner of the Championship tourney is the 2006 Washington State Chess Champion. The prize fund is $800 for the Premier. First $300, Second $200, Third $150, Fourth $100, Fifth $50. The winner of the Premier tourney wins a seed into the 2007 Championship tourney if certain activity requirements are met.

This year a requirement has been added that each player must annotate at least one game from each weekend's play, and submit it to the tournament director by the end of the next week. Prizes will not be paid until this small obligation is completed. These notes will be used in Northwest Chess magazine so that the Championship event while serving primarily the best players, may also be a service to the main membership.

In addition, for the players in the Championship, an additional prize of $1,000 to the player who comes in first under the BAP rules has been generously provided by Mr. Clint Ballard. (The website explaining these rules is obsolete.)
